A unique museum highlighting children’s literature as a regional attraction will open next year at 919 E. 14th Ave. in North Kansas City.
The world’s first Explor-a-Storium is being created by the former owners of Reading Reptile, a children’s bookstore and cultural center previously located in Brookside.
Featured in an article by Rob Roberts in the “Kansas City Business Journal." Explor-A-Storium will be located in a two-building, 172,000-square-foot space at the intersection of 14th Avenue and Knox Street. The children’s literature museum will initially comprise 86,000 square feet on the first two floors and basement of the four-story building. Cost for the project is estimated at approximately $10 million.
The parent company, Rabbit Hole, received approval from the Missouri Development Finance Board late last year for a requested $2 million in 50 percent contribution credits, providing contributing entities a total of $4 million to the project with 50 percent tax credits.
Explor-a-Storium will include temporary and permanent exhibit space, including two 3,000-square-foot galleries that will allow children and their families to walk through popular children’s books.
