Progress continues on a massive, multi-billion-dollar data center planned along the Clay/Platte County line north of I-435.
Called the Golden Plains Technology Park, the nearly 800-acre development is being proposed by Diode Ventures, a subsidiary of Black & Veatch headquartered in Overland Park. The center will serve the rapidly expanding demand for data, cloud and other digital hosting services like those used by Facebook, Amazon and Google.
Currently planned to include over a dozen large buildings totaling approximately six million square feet, the proposal recently passed Kansas City’s Transportation, Infrastructure and Operations Committee. As of this writing, it was scheduled to go before the City Council April 29. If approved, construction could start later this year west of Highway 169 and north of 128th Street, northwest of the Kansas City Nashua neighborhood.
The developers are seeking over eight billion in incentives, including a 37-year Chapter 100 industrial development plan and up to $103.8 billion in industrial revenue bonds for 25 years.
