Do you know you can enjoy zoo animals while listening to a string quartet while sipping a beverage of your choice? Today is the last day you can reserve a table or seat for your EDC’s Look North Awards Gala October 23rd by clicking here. Our Look North Award recipient this year is Tim Harris, founder and managing principal of Star Development. During our cocktail hour we will be entertained by the William Jewell String Quartet. Keith Nelson will posthumously receive a special recognition award for his work on the Francois Chouteau Monument. The keynote speaker will be the zoo’s executive director Randy Wisthoff who is bringing friends. Your EDC’s Chairman Greg Canuteson will also reveal, for the first time in public, the plans for your EDC’s Big 4 game changing “587”.

Maggie Kost will take over as Missouri’s Department of Economic Development’s Acting Director upon Director Rob Dixon’s departure on October 22, 2021. In September, Director Dixon announced he would be taking a new post with Ameren Missouri. Ms. Kost currently serves as DED Deputy Director and oversees the Department’s Administration division.  

Do you feel the need to get a little exercise and help clean up your county? The Mid America Regional Council sponsors the Ploctober Cleanup on Sunday, October 17th to get you outdoors after a long quarantine and get some exercise while engaging in a socially responsible activity that beautifies the streamside trails in your community. Click here for more information or to register. While you will be referred to certain locations, you can pick any spot and time at your convenience. Gather with some friends, coworkers or service organization to make it even more fun. 

The Northland Education and Business Alliance is hosting another of their Career Speaker Series on October 19th. You can register for the Transportation, Distribution and Logistics webinar by clicking hereor Manufacturing right here. These live events will be advertised to Northland students and educational institutions spanning from kindergarten through post-secondary. The purpose of these events is to bring awareness of specific industries that drive the local economy. Speakers will provide background about the industry, their company and local career opportunities. Registered attendees will be able to pose questions to the speakers to learn more about the industry. If you could spare some time on Monday, October 18th the Northland Center for Advanced Professional Studies is hosting a resume review at the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Liberty. There will be two sessions. Please click on the one most convenient to you to register from 7:45 am – 9:30 amand from 12:15 pm – 2:00 pm

For the next few weeks the redistricting committee for Kanas City will be meeting on Wednesday afternoons from 4-6PM on the 10th floor of City Hall. The meetings will also be broadcast on channel 2. Northland representation on the Kansas City Council has a huge impact on our county and your EDC has been and will continue to be involved.

In March 2021, Governor Parson established the Show Me Strong Recovery Taskforce. The purpose of the task force is to study and develop recommendations on ways to support businesses throughout Missouri. The Task Force also considers ways to better engage all businesses through existing economic development tools. Please provide your feedback by clicking here.
