The recommendation from the Kansas City redistricting committee is not what leaders in the Northland were hoping for. A horizontal split, basically along Barry Road, would be the dividing line instead of the current vertical line that runs along North Oak. The new line would put most of the older neighborhoods in the second district and put the expected 30,000 citizen growth in the first district. Instead of spending the general obligation funds (GO Bonds) and public improvement advisory committee’s funds (PIAC) from two districts in the older neighborhoods, money would only come from one. The Kansas City Council still must approve the plan. We hope that the Council will rethink the proposed horizontal split redistricting plan as it is not in the best interest of the Northland.
