Google is reported to have acquired more land for a possible data center near Worlds of Fun.
Shalerock LLC, has previously served as an intentional real estate representative for Google and has recently purchased an additional 236 acres near its existing 78 acres north of Hunt Midwest in Clay County.
When the company acquired the initial property in 2019, the Kansas City Port Authority authorized the issuance of up to $25 billion in privately backed Chapter 68 bonds over a 35-year period. Officials said Google was not necessarily pursuing a $25 billion project, but its investment could climb as high as that total with phases beyond an initial $600 million center.
Data center development is growing dramatically in Greater Kansas City, including a mammoth facility straddling the Clay-Platte line near Smithville.
