Friday Facts: February 25
Friday Facts

Do you know where you are reading this Wednesday? Help Dr. Seuss celebrate his birthday by signing up with your local school to read to some kids on National Read Across America Day. Until the third-grade kids learn to read. After that you read to learn.

This week your EDC’s Board endorsed the Kearney School District’s $44 million zero-tax-rate-increase bond issue for April 5th. Under the direction of Board President Mark Kelly and Interim Superintendent Todd White, the district continues to show us reasons to support their goals. Preparing our young adults for the workforce is very important and the genesis of our Northland Education and Business Alliance (NEBA). The KSD plays a large role in NEBA and we are proud to have them as a partner. For more information, click here to see what our friends at Kearney’s own KPGZ News Radio report.

EDC Chair Julie Sola, Vice President and General Manager of Harrah’s Casino, pulled her Board together for a strategic planning session facilitated by iWerx’sBob Martin. We are planning the future of Clay County. If you want to share an idea please contact a staff member below or reach out to one of our Directors here.

Not mentioned in the local media, from what we were able to determine, was a front-page story in the Sunday St. Louis Post Dispatch by former three-term US Senator from Missouri John Danforth. He is seeking a center-right independent candidate to run for Senator Roy Blunt’s seat. You can read the story here.

This Tuesday is a chance to learn about a remarkable success story while having a fun time right here in Clay County. Join us for NEBA Networking at Nickel and Suede on Tuesday, March 1st from 3:30-5:30PM. Kilee Nickels, the CEO and Founder of Nickel & Suede, will talk about her business, her passion for community as well as her dedication to inspiring women to pursue their dreams!
