Friday Facts: October 28
Friday Facts

NEBAthis Tuesday: Do you have an hour and a half each month to help develop our workforce? Your EDC hosts the Northland Education and Business Alliance the first Tuesday of every month at our office. Educators and businesses are put in the same room to help develop our workforce. Northland CAPS, career fairs, mock interviews, externships and internships are products of NEBA. This month’s guest speaker is Dr. Larry Rideaux, President of Maple Woods Community College. Lunch is provided at 11:45 with the meeting running from noon to 1. For more information, call our office.

While stuck in rush hour: If you missed the meeting on the I-29, I-35 and Highway 169 intersection there is information posted on the MoDOT page to direct you to a virtual meeting online as well as a survey to gather opinions. We can’t get improvement funding unless others know we have a problem.

Broadband expansion: The Mid-America Regional Council and the Missouri Office of Broadband Development are hosting two listening sessions in November to hear from local officials, residents and other stakeholders on the need for investment in broadband and digital access services in Cass, Clay, Jackson, Platte and Ray counties. One meeting will take place Thursday, Nov. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Mid-Continent Public Library located at 1665 S. Withers Road in Liberty. State officials are seeking feedback on how Missouri should spend $500 million in new federal funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA); the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program; and the Digital Equity Act program. Read more here.

Global Entrepreneurship Week in Two Weeks: KCSourceLink will be hosting the Global Entrepreneurship Week right here in Clay County November 14th-20th. The weeklong event that draws thousands to network, learn and grow will have its main events at iWerx in North Kansas City and surrounding locations. The goal is to foster some of that entrepreneurial energy at GEWKC, as entrepreneurs and their champions connect to learn more about how to start, grow and accelerate businesses.

Intern anyone? Can you think of a valuable project for your business or organization that would be a learning opportunity for an intern? Northland CAPS is currently looking to secure approximately 300 unpaid internships across every career industry for the spring semester. NCAPS interns report 10 hrs/week for 15 weeks beginning in mid-January. They work with businesses and organizations of all sizes and varieties, including small businesses. Please consider hosting one! To get started, you can complete this quick form. If you have questions, please contact Allison Clemens or Brett Kisker at info@northlandcaps.org.

Local Election Information: Here is the link to the CT update this week. We urge you to click here to see your November 8th ballot. The beauty of a Democracy is that we will all be able to vote the way we feel best fits our beliefs. All we ask that you come prepared after looking into the candidates and issues.
