The Northland Career Center and the Platte County School District hosted a Celebration of Workforce Education Oct. 19 with help from Missouri Governor Michael Parson.
The celebration included over 100 other guests, nine local legislators and NCC team members. Gov. Parson was the featured guest and arrived at Northland Career to a team of skilled trades students in the diesel technology shop before moving to the NCC culinary arts room.
Dr. Jay Harris, Platte County superintendent of Schools, opened the conversation by thanking the governor and legislators for their efforts to provide a $30 million award to Northland Career Center. Brian Noller also thanked each group in the room and shared the new marketing video.
The new NCC Director, Jeff Green, then told his career technical education story and how two of his children are graduates. Green introduced Governor Parson who spoke about NCC and how excited he was to come back after his initial visit in 2021.
Gov. Parson also charged NCC leadership, school district leadership and Northland stakeholders to begin working to raise matching funds for the $30 million. He discussed his areas of priority. including workforce and infrastructure and offered to come back to the Northland to help campaign to raise the next $30 million in matching funds.
