Wreath For a Veteran: December 17th is National Wreaths Across America Day when volunteers remember, honor and teach via a coordinated wreath-laying ceremony. At the same time veterans are acknowledged at Arlington National Cemetery, more than 3,400 additional locations in all 50 States, at sea and abroad will have grave sites decorated. To learn, volunteer or donate,  click here. Four cemeteries in Clay County, Terrace Park, Fairview, White Chapel and Fairview-New Hope are participating.

Liberty Hospital ranked safest in the Northland: For the third year in a row Liberty Hospital was ranked as the safest in the Northland by The Leapfrog Group. “This achievement is only possible with a smart, dedicated workforce, and I am tremendously proud of our team for putting patient safety first,” Raghu Adiga, MD, hospital president and CEO, said. “Receiving the highest score three times in a row is something few hospitals can claim, and I commend our team’s outstanding effort to achieve such standards and meet the need for premier healthcare in the Northland. ”Read the press release by clicking here

Look North and Keystone December 15th: Dave Horn, who led the effort to revitalize both the Antioch and Metro North Malls, will be honored with the Look North award at your EDC’s luncheon December 15th. Businesses in the Northland that have made a significant contribution to help build Clay County’s economy will also be recognized with a Keystone. Seats are $40 with tables of eight for $300. You can register here.

Intern anyone? Can you think of a valuable project for your business or organization that would be a learning opportunity for an intern? Northland CAPS is currently looking to secure approximately 300 unpaid internships across every career industry for the spring semester. NCAPS interns report 10 hrs/week for 15 weeks beginning in mid-January. They work with businesses and organizations of all sizes and varieties, including small businesses. Northland Neighborhoods, Inc. is hosting the Kansas City Health Department for a vaccine clinic from 2-5PM December 8th. They will administer Tdap, COVID and the flu vaccines. Please call 816-454-2000 with any questions.

Our Mid-Continent Public Libraries offer many classes including the Square One courses on how to operate a business. The website offers many opportunities, both virtual and in-person.
