A major Northland data development is now owned completely by Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and other social media platforms.
Meta has purchased nearly 900 acres near I-435 and Highway 169, all in Clay County. According to EDC Executive Director David Slater, contacts with Meta have confirmed the sale.
Though dramatic, the development involves Meta’s quiet purchase of more than 500 acres, all the remaining property in the Golden Plains Technology Park. The company has yet to announce its plans outside of the 350 acres where construction of its initial data center is under way. That facility is scheduled to open next year.
EDC Executive Director David Slater said the organization was contacted in November by an area developer and that the EDC pledged its support to help with any hurdles.
The park’s master plan includes up to 5.5 million square feet of construction in 16 data center buildings. More information is available in this subscriber only article from the Kansas City Business Journal.
