The former Sam’s Town Casino has been purchased by an investment group led by Dave Horn, the organization responsible for the successful revitalization of Metro North Crossing and Antioch Crossing centers.
The former Sam’s Town property had been operated as a training center by Cerner Corporation, then was listed for sale in 2021. The original Sam’s Town Gambling Hall was opened in 1995 but closed in 1998 after multiple other casinos had opened in Greater Kansas City.
Horn, named the EDC’s Look North Award recipient in 2022, has a record of rescuing struggling properties throughout Kansas City. He and his investment group turned around the former Blue Ridge Mall, now Blue Ridge Crossing, before focusing on Antioch Center and Metro North, creating the now-thriving Antioch Crossing and Metro North Crossing centers. The rebuilding efforts have improved not only the commercial centers but also helped stabilize surrounding residential neighborhoods.
No plans have been announced for the former Sam’s Town, which is located southwest of the I-435/Highway 210 interchange. Other nearby businesses include Hunt Midwest’s Business Center and SubTropolis.
A native of Alton, Ill., Horn is a graduate of Benedictine University in Atchison and has over 20 years of commercial real estate development experience.
