Civic and Legislative Affairs: Our Civic and Legislative Affairs Committee meeting will be Tuesday at 7:30AM. Once again it will deal with working with Platte County to improve our influence with the Mid-America Regional Council as we work to connect the current and future developments in Clay and Platte County. Please take a look at the various MARC Committees and find a fit for you. Remember that MARC is more than just transportation and we need to be represented on every available committee. As the Metropolitan Planning Organization, MARC distributes millions of dollars in federal and state funds and we want to get our fair share.
I-29/I-35/US 169 Public Meeting: If you have issues about the split you have the opportunity to voice your concerns. The study team welcomes public comment Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at the Raymond R Brock Jr. Hall, Northland Neighborhoods Inc., 5340 NE Chouteau Trafficway, Kansas City, MO from 5-7PM in an open house format. The meeting will provide information on the alternatives screening process and results, preliminary PEL recommendations and project next steps. Job Fair: The Kansas City Police Department will be hosting a job fair April 18th from 10AM to 4PM and it won’t just be for police officers. Local businesses can set up their own booth in order to find much needed employment. New Lead Feeder: After Twelve years as Executive Director, Chris Evans will retire from Feed Northland Kids at the end of the month. She will be succeeded by Gwen Spidle O’Brien. You can read more here, but your EDC wants to thank Chris for her years of leadership and impact on the Northland.

Clay Vendor List: Clay County Tourism and Marketing Coordinator Megan Sahlfeld is curating a “Made in Clay” vendor list. Her three goals are 1) Internally, as they have a need to occasionally purchase items on behalf of the County as giveaways, prizes, etc. 2) Socially, as a way to share with the community some of the unique finds within our County (thinking of weekly social blasts once we have the website and socials fully operational) and 3) Organizationally, as a shared list that we can all benefit from as we seek to support our local businesses. Our Mid-Continent Public Libraries offer many classes including the Square Onecourses on how to operate a business. The website offers many opportunities, both virtual and in-person.
Did you know that your EDC provides small business loans through our partnership with Midwest Small Business Financing? We want to put your business into buildings and purchase the required fixed assets. Our rates include the Small Business Administration fees and are currently 6.748% for ten years, 6.739% for 20 years and 6.707% for 25 years. Please contact us with any questions.
