Friday Facts: March 31
Friday Facts

Municipal and School Elections Tuesday: The April 4th ballot is available by clicking here. Your EDC encourages you to vote, but only after studying the candidates and issues. Please take a few minutes with a search engine to help you get a full perspective.

State of the Cities/County: Thank you to everyone who came out to our luncheon yesterday. The Excelsior Citizen filmed the event and may have it on their website by the time you read this. Our monthly newsletter will be out early next week with a link to all of the presentations. We will soon have them on our website.

KCI’s Klein Right on Time: By now you have probably heard that KC’s Director of Aviation, Pat Kleinwill retire May 31st. What you may not know is the change of dynamics he provided when promoted to Director in 2016. When then Mayor Sly James and City Manager Troy Schulte relieved former Aviation Director Mark VanLoh they had to hit a home run. They hit a grand slam. The idea of a new terminal was not popular with the public or the Council and the vision had all but died. Klein generated the momentum that effected the momentum change and then oversaw the City’s largest public works project completing it early and on budget. Cheers.

Clean Up Before the Draft: If you are more tired of seeing trash in the Northland than you are waiting on government to come up with a solution you may want to organize a cleanup. Kansas City Parks has set April 21-23, one week before the NFL Draft, as cleanup days. Click here to join. We will let you know as other cities organize Earth Day events.

Parade of Playhouses: Our friends at the Kansas City Home Builders Association have opened bidding on playhouses constructed by area high school students. You can bid on these unique and creative buildings by clicking here. All proceeds go to furthering Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education.

Kearney Chamber’s Hiring Fair: The Kearney Chamber is hosting their third annual Kearney Hiring Fair April 13th from 3:30-6:30 at the First United Methodist Church 1000 E 92 Highway. For more information, including the participating businesses, click here.

College For Kids: If your kids get bored over summer vacation you may want to take a look at the Metropolitan Community College’s College For Kids. The 2023 summer camps include iOS Development, Theatre, Coding and Medical School for kids. Click here for more information or to enroll.
