Municipal and School Elections Results: The April 4th election results are available here. Your EDC congratulates both the winners and those who came up short for stepping up to serve. Please note that these are only the results for Clay County. Since Kansas City encompasses four counties, our results are not the end all, be all in forming the two-candidate runoff. KC races will be determined June 30th. Mayor Quinton Lucas will face the guy from Virginia (if other media would follow your EDC’s lead of not giving his opponent media time maybe he would quit coming back). At Large runoffs will be 1stKevin O’Neill and Rhonda Smith, 2nd Lindsay French and Jenay Manley, 3rd Melissa Patterson Hazley and Brandon Ellington, 4th Crispin Rea and Justin Short, 5th Darrell Curls and Michael Kelley and 6th Andrea Bough and Jill Sasse. In District has 1st Nathan Willett and Chris Gahagan, 3rd Melissa Robinson and Sheri Hall, 4th Eric Bunch and Henry Rizzo and 6th Dan Tarwater III and Johnathan Duncan. Ryana Parks-Shaw 5th and Wes Rogers 2nd are unopposed.
Peggy Shull Passes: Former Presiding Commissioner Peggy Shull passed away April 1st. From 1988 to 1994 Peggy served the citizens of Clay County. You can read her obituary here.

I-29/I-35/US 169 Public Meeting: If you have issues about the split you have the opportunity to voice your concerns. The study team welcomes public comment Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at the Raymond R Brock Jr. Hall, Northland Neighborhoods Inc., 5340 NE Chouteau Trafficway, Kansas City, MO from 5-7PM in an open house format. The meeting will provide information on the alternatives screening process and results, preliminary PEL recommendations and project next steps. A virtual component and survey will be available to the general public from April 12 through April 30 to provide additional comments. For project details, click here.
Clean Up Before the Draft: If you are more tired of seeing trash in the Northland than you are waiting on government to come up with a solution you may want to organize a cleanup. Kansas City Parks has set April 21-23, one week before the NFL Draft, as cleanup days. Click here to join. We will let you know as other cities organize Earth Day events.
Kearney Chamber’s Hiring Fair: The Kearney Chamber is hosting their third annual Kearney Hiring Fair April 13th from 3:30-6:30 at the First United Methodist Church 1000 E 92 Highway. For more information, including the participating businesses, click here.
Job Fair: The Kansas City Police Department will be hosting a job fair April 18th from 10AM to 4PM and it won’t just be for police officers. Local businesses can set up their own booth in order to find much needed employment. Our Mid-Continent Public Libraries offer many classes including the Square Onecourses on how to operate a business. The website offers many opportunities, both virtual and in-person.
Did you know that your EDC provides small business loans through our partnership with Midwest Small Business Financing? We want to put your business into buildings and purchase the required fixed assets.
