Friday Facts: April 14
Friday Facts

Worlds of Fun Institutes New Policy: Rick Fiedler, the new General Manger for Worlds of Fun and his team reacted quickly to an opening day incident involving some teenage punks by instituting a new Code of Conduct. Those involved will have a very unpleasant surprise when they return. The amusement park is a Clay County destination and your EDC, with the help of Kansas City Police Commissioner Dawn Cramer, has set up a meeting with park officials and law enforcement leaders to make sure that we have a very safe county that is family friendly.

Mayors DeLong and Pogue Join Transportation Leadership: North Kansas City Mayor Bryant DeLong will represent the Clay County Municipalities on the Mid-America Regional Council’s Total Transportation Policy Committee joining Clay County Presiding Commissioner Jerry Nolte and Highway Administrator Karl Walters on the agency that determines where federal and state funding is administered for the region. As the TTPC alternate, Kearney Mayor Randy Pogue will represent the Clay cities on the MARC Highway Committee. These organizations determine financial allocations from trails to airports, including waterways.

Meet the KCPD Chief and Majors: Northland Neighborhoods, Inc and your EDC have rescheduled our postponed reception/meet and greet for new Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves and Majors Scott Simons (Shoal Creek) and Keith Kirchoff (North Patrol) for April 24th from 6-7:30PM at the Raymond R Brock Jr Hall at NNI.

Boley to Lead Municipal Region: Smithville Mayor Damien Boley has been chosen to lead the West Gate Region of the Missouri Municipal League as the President.  Serving on the MML Board of Directors, Mayor Boley is also the Treasurer of the Mid-America Regional Council Board.

Mental Health Hotline: Governor Mike Parson announced the launching of a Statewide 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline this week. Help is available 24/7/365. This same infrastructure will soon be adapted to host a Statewide 911 system in case of emergencies. At this time you can’t drive across I-70 and dial 911, good luck in the Ozarks.

Civic and Legislative Affairs Committee:  Usually held the third Tuesday of each month at 7:30, your EDC’s Civic and Legislative Affairs Committee will instead continue partnering with our friends in Platte County for the Northland Transportation Committee meeting April 25th at 3PM at the Platte County Resource Center 11724 NW Plaza Circle.

No Cats and Only Five Pups: A big thank you to all who adopted every cat from Maple Woods Veterinary Technology Program. They are down to five dogs. You can meet your new best friend by clicking here.
