Amazon’s new fulfillment center in Liberty addresses an unusual class of products: oversized and heavy items that tend to be problems for less specialized logistics centers.
Located in the new Liberty Commerce Center near South Liberty Parkway and Withers Road, the more than one million square foot building is the second Amazon facility to open there. Amazon launched a sortation center at the same area in August of 2022. Several other large logistics operations are already located in the area, which is adjacent to the Ford Stamping Plant.
Amazon’s newest fulfillment center is a first for the Greater Kansas City metro area that specializes in heavy and oversized items. Expected to create more than 500 jobs, the facility will ship items longer than 96 inches or greater than 50 pounds – items like large TVs, mattresses, exercise equipment, grills and outdoor recreational equipment.
The new operation began with approximately 150 employees and is continuing to hire more.
