Friday Facts

More Fireworks: If you have not gotten your fireworks fix taken care of you are in luck. In celebration of their 50th anniversary Worlds of Fun continues their 50 Nights of Fire through August 12th. The display features an end of the day celebration featuring stirring pyrotechnics, state-of-the-art drone technology, a stirring musical soundtrack and a scrapbook of memories featuring some of the greatest moments of Worlds of Fun’s dedication to adventure and fun.

And One More Firework: Former Pleasant Valley City Councilman Loren Joneswanted his cremated remains launched in an aerial firework. The family will grant that wish on Sunday so if you see a large bottle rocket in the skies above Pleasant Valley, consider raising a glass.

Good Luck Ethen: A few weeks ago our loan officer, Ethen Pineda, got a fantastic job offer from a local regional bank to be their Small Business Administration loan supervisor. We could not match the offer. We are very pleased for Ethen and wish him well. This confirms that we made the right hire two years ago and that his new opportunity is lucky to have someone with the experience he gained from your EDC’s Midwest Small Business Finance. We hired Karina Guzman to learn the business about a month ago and we are excited to watch her grow as a loan officer. Please feel free to reach out to Karina for any building or equipment loans.

Weekend Day Trips in Clay: This week let’s go to the Shoal Creek Living History Museum in Kansas City’s Hodge Park. The museum has 21 structures with 17 authentic 19th century buildings dating back from 1807-1885. The historic log cabins and homes were relocated from surrounding counties to create a village setting. The grounds are open daily, dawn until dusk, and free of charge unless during a special event. The buildings are open during special events. You can enjoy self-guided tours by using the walking tour guide brochures which have building details and dates. Brochures are located at the front entrance off Barry Road at the information box, kiosk and mercantile front porch. Picnic under the large shade trees or venture out on the walking trails throughout Hodge Park. Catch a glimpse of the bison and visit the chickens (spring through the fall) in the coop behind the Stollings House. You can walk a trail from Barry Road to Shoal Creek Parkway.

Coffee Connect: This Wednesday we are going to hear the story of Jan Jensen and learn all things about art. At Jan Jensen artists, they specialize in curating vivid and emotive work from Kansas City’s local artists and connecting them with the audience they never knew they had. Networking begins at 7:45 with the presentation at 8. We will meet in the North Kansas City iWerx 1520 Clay St.
