Members of the Corridor: Last year your EDC’s Board of Directors made the strategic decision to join the Kansas City Area Development Council. Having access to their resources is paying great dividends to our County. The latest finally puts Clay County into the Animal Health Corridor which stretches from Columbia, Missouri to Manhattan, Kansas with a bump up to St. Jospeh. We had been skipped over until now. Under the direction of President and CEO Tim Cowden with Kimberly Young, President of the KC Animal Health Corridor and project leader Emily McVey Vice President KC Animal Health Corridor we are now the North American Headquarters for Felixvet, an international Pharmaceutical Company. Cramers to Ring Out the NYSE: Northland leaders Dawn and Bruce Cramer of Cramer Capital Management have been selected to ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange this afternoon at 3PM CDT. Dawn is the Vice President of the Kansas City Board of Police Commissioners and Bruce serves as the Secretary of your EDC’s Board of Directors. The Cramers recently relocated their business to Smithville. While ringing the bell sounds simple, it is a great honor.
Building Partnerships in the Northland: Northland leaders Metropolitan Community College Maple Woods President Dr. Larry Rideaux, Platte County R3 Superintendent Dr. Jay Harris and Northland Workforce Development Center’s Brian Noller penned a piece for Diverse Magazine on how working together, educational institutions can create more accessible and effective pathways to enter high-demand career fields. Dr. Berghoff Named Medical Staff President: North Kansas City Hospital has named Keenan Berghoff, MD, medical staff president. Dr. Berghoff is the hospital’s director of Bariatric Surgery, a bariatric surgeon with the Total Weight Loss Center and a surgeon with Meritas Health Comprehensive Surgery. He will act as a liaison between the medical staff and the hospital’s administration, chair the Medical Executive Committee and provide leadership to his colleagues. Read more here.
Weekend Day Trips in Clay: This week let’s go to the Jesse James Farm in Kearney to see where the famous outlaw was born. Located at 21216 Jesse James Farm Road, the farm charges a small admission and is open 9AM-4-PM daily through August. Visitors can see the exhibit with regular admission to the museum, which includes a guided tour through the James Farm cabin, interpretive film and a self-guided tour of three museum galleries. The Friends of the James Farm hosts a variety of events including Old West Revolver Shoots, a Writers Conference and annual Friends of the James Farm Reunion. James, along with his brother Frank, were American outlaws, bank and train robbers, Civil War guerrillas and leaders of the James–Younger Gang.

Coffee Connect: This Wednesday we are going to hear the story of Frank Scimeca and Toni Bonadonna about being fourth generation leaders of Scimeca’s Online Market & Deli.
