Children’s Mercy Kansas City has again been recognized as one of the nation’s top pediatric hospitals, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2023-2024 “Best Children’s Hospitals” report. Children’s Mercy is listed with the best in the country in multiple pediatric specialties.
U.S. News surveyed nearly 300 pediatric hospitals. Three Children’s Mercy specialties ranked among the top 20 nationally this year, with the nephrology team ranked No. 10. The diabetes and endocrinology team tied for No. 15 and orthopedics made a big jump from No. 30 just one year ago to No. 18.

In surveying the pediatric centers, U.S. News gathered clinical and operational data. This data was then combined with results from a reputational survey in which board-certified pediatric specialists were asked where they would send the sickest children in their specialty.
Those pediatric specialties consist of cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; gastroenterology and GI surgery; neonatology; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; pulmonology and lung surgery and urology.
