North Kansas City Hospital has named Scott Kujath, MD, FACS, FSVS, as medical staff president.
Dr. Kujath, a vascular surgeon with the Midwest Aortic and Vascular Institute, began his one-year term on July 1. In this role, Dr. Kujath chairs the Medical Executive Committee, provides leadership to his colleagues and acts as a liaison between the medical staff and the hospital’s administration, according to a release from the hospital.
“We are a progressive, independent hospital, and part of that is driven by the medical staff,” said Dr. Kujath, pointing to the hospital’s proactive COVID-19 efforts, including its Operation Safe regional vaccination clinic, workgroups and personal protective equipment sterilization process. “I look forward to guiding our medical staff as NKCH continues to grow to meet the community’s healthcare needs.”
After joining NKCH in 2001, Dr. Kujath has served the hospital widely, including two terms as Department of Surgery chair and as chair of the Cardiovascular Subcommittee, Operating Room Subcommittee and Surgery Advisory Committee. Additionally, Dr. Kujath is a leader in research, serving as a local principal investigator for several clinical trials in aortic and vascular disease. He also serves as president of the Kansas City Medical Society and sits on the board of directors for its foundation. He is a member of the Midwestern Vascular Surgery Society, Missouri State Medical Society, Society for Vascular Surgery and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.
A fellow of the American College of Surgeons and the Society for Vascular Surgery, Dr. Kujath is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and board certified in vascular surgery. He earned his medical degree in 1995 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, where he completed his general surgery residency in 2000. He did his vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Tennessee. Dr. Kujath holds academic appointments with Kansas City University, the University of Kansas and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He is program director of MAVI’s American Council of Graduate Medical Education-accredited vascular surgery fellowship and chief of Vascular Surgery at the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
