Community Wholesale Tire will soon become the latest resident of Hunt Midwest’s “Automotive Alley.”
Located east of I-435 in Hunt Midwest Business Center, Automotive Alley is a collection of automotive suppliers and aftermarket upfitters that all focus on vehicles manufactured at the nearby Ford Claycomo plant. Community Wholesale Tire is building a more than 200,000-square-foot warehouse in the center’s Logistics V building.
Community Wholesale Tire, one of the Midwest’s largest family owned and operated tire distributors, has been a leader in the tire industry for nearly 90 years. The company operates five distribution centers in Missouri, Illinois and Iowa and serves customers in a nine-state marketing area. Community Wholesale Tire’s headquarters is in the St. Louis suburb of Hazelwood, Missouri.
Strategic Location
The new location offers Community Wholesale Tire unparalleled access to major interstates, rail, first-stop/last-stop transportation hubs, a robust local labor force and established bus routes. It also will give the company direct access to 120 other companies doing business at HMBC and SubTropolis, the world’s largest underground business complex. Both are home to Hunt Midwest’s Automotive Alley®, where more than a dozen suppliers and upfitters work hand-in-glove with one another and Ford’s 29-acre North American Vehicle Logistics Outbound Shipping facility, just minutes from the Ford Claycomo plant.
“We’re thrilled to welcome such a longstanding, family-owned business to Hunt Midwest Business Center,” said Mike Bell, Hunt Midwest Senior Vice President for Commercial Real Estate. “It underscores that this premier location offers businesses a cost-effective solution to reach the entire Kansas City metro and beyond. Community Wholesale Tire also fits perfectly into our growing Automotive Alley as suppliers and upfitters prepare for the next generation of electric Ford Transit vehicles.”
Construction of Logistics V is occurring alongside an extension of NE 48th Street to N Arlington Avenue, providing another direct access point from the Hunt Midwest Business Center to Interstate 435. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2023.
Community Wholesale Tire was founded nearly 90 years ago in St. Louis and has since expanded to nine states across the Midwest, serving more than 4,500 tire dealers with an extensive inventory of quality tire brands. In addition to its Kansas City facility, Community Wholesale Tire also has warehouse locations in St. Louis and Springfield, Missouri; Peoria,
Illinois; and a new 100,000-square-foot distribution center completed in January 2022 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Plans
“This brand-new facility at HMBC Logistics V will provide us the additional space and versatility to better serve our customers here in Kansas City and across the region as our family operation continues to grow,” said Andy Berra, president of Community Wholesale Tire.
Community Wholesale Tire will be located directly east of HMBC Logistics IV, a 478,295-squarefoot, cross-dock industrial facility that was recently completed. Logistics IV is leased to UPS Supply Chain Solutions and JE Dunn, with a remaining 132,221 square feet available for lease.
Hunt Midwest’s partners on HMBC Logistics V included Olsson and Associates for civil engineering, H2B Architects for building design and GPS-KC as the general contractor overseeing construction.
