Friday Facts: November 24
Friday Facts

By David Slater, Executive Director

Happy Thanksgiving: Your EDC is so very thankful to those of you who donate your time, treasure and talent to help us make Clay County a better place to learn, play, work and live. Thank you.

Trader Joe’s: If there is one retail request we hear all the time it would be to get a Trader Joe’s. They are difficult to attract and look for specific demographics. Well, here is our opportunity. Click this link to show support and share it with your fellow Northlanders. I suggested Metro North Crossing for my recommendation as it is in the center of the Northland and would provide easy access to a lot of people. Of course your EDC would not mind if you suggested our 587 Project. Pick your own spot but please vote and share.

No Glass Ceiling: If you follow local government in Clay County you know that our County Administrator is Dianna Wright. Did you also know that the top jobs in our three cities along the 92 Highway corridor are also led by very accomplished ladies. Sheila Ernzen with Kearney, Cynthia Wagner of Smithville and Molly McGovern with Excelsior Springs are the City Administrators. Many other powerful positions in Clay County local government are filled with women. By the way, your EDC’s Board is Chaired by Julie Sola, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Harrah’s.

Keystone Awards: Tickets and sponsorships are now available for our December 14th Keystone Awards luncheon by clicking here. The awards are given based on public investment with a significant impact on the economy of Clay County. Special Recognition Awards will be given for public or public/private projects that have a significant impact on our economy and/or quality of life. More details will follow but please save the date for lunch. Our Look North luncheon drew over 300 people who make a difference in our County and you’ll want to be able to network with these leaders.

Clay County Comprehensive Plan: Do you have a vision for our County? The Comprehensive Plan is a long-range document that guides the County’s future growth and development, its priorities and its services. It is a road map of sorts that helps us visualize where we want to go as a county and the path to reach that destination. You can give your input by clicking here.

Coffee Connect: This Wednesday we are planning the future of Coffee Connect at the Diamond Conference Center 11875 Diamond Parkway in North Kansas City. You are the program. We want to have a roundtable discussion about what are the best features of Northland Coffee Connect and what causes you to want to show up each week. That will lead to a discussion of what we might want to consider doing differently in 2024, if anything. Bring your best ideas and perhaps a list of potential future presenters. Networking starts at 7:45 with the program at 8AM.
