Friday Facts: December 22
Friday Facts

Liberty Hospital: The “computer system disruption” at Liberty Hospital is just evil in my opinion. Lives are at stake and their team, working with other regional agencies with disaster recovery plans as well as mutual aid agreements, have worked amazingly well to prevent any deaths. Prior to this opportunity I was the Chief Financial Officer at a local bank and oversaw operations including information technology. The amount of money spent to protect your information is a large part of any budget. You set up firewalls, allow patching (weekly updates from Microsoft experts paid to find potential system leaks), provide monthly employee testing and other defenses but it only takes one employee to open up an infected e-mail to take down an entire system. If you or a friend on Facebook are ever hacked, know that is by a punk in their parents’ basement without a productive life. The lowlifes that get into hospitals and other businesses are well-trained terrorists.

Consensus All American Leads: University of Missouri running back Cory Schrader earned consensus All American this year becoming just the 15th Tiger to do so. A quick look at the list showed Northland Transportation Site Readiness Co-Chair Martin T. Rucker II as receiving the same recognition in 2007. The eighth football player to do so at the time, T was a tight end who had a nice career in the National Football League before starting Martin T Rucker Development.

Congressional Nominations: Every year members of Congress nominate some of their District’s finest young men and women for admission to one of our nation’s great service academies: the U.S. Military Academy (West Point), U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Each of the nominees to these academies trade 5 years of service for an exceptional education at some of the most prestigious institutions in America. Congressman Grave’s nominations this year included Breanna Coonfare of Liberty North, Lance Meekins of Kearney, and Tade Wynn of Liberty (Culver Military Academy) to the US Military Academy. Octavious Soriano of St. Pius, Evan Janiak of Kearney and Zachary Wheeler of Smithville were admitted to the US Naval Academy. As soon as we get word we’ll let you know who was selected from Clay County by Congressman Cleaver.

Candidate Filing Open: Putting your name in the hat for municipal, school board and other positions on the April 2nd ballot remains open until Tuesday, December 26th. Check with the location of the office you are seeking for filing information or click here for the Clay County Election Board.

Poor Chloe: Chloe has still not found a home. All the other pups have new families for the holidays. The MCC Maple Woods Vet Tech Program’s pet adoption pups are rescued from local shelters throughout the Kansas City area. In this program, they update all dogs and cats with vaccinations, a spay or neuter, full dental cleaning, preventative care and socialize them to be the perfect pet for your home.

See You In Two Weeks: Your EDC is closed for the week between Christmas and New Years so there will be no Friday Facts next week. Does not mean our offices will be empty. Anyone wanting to do breakfast, lunch or the afterhours drill just let me know and I’ll try to pull away from the compliance I’ll be working on.
