Clay County Economic Development Council’s

Friday Facts

By David Slater, Executive Director

Boley Continues Climb: Smithville Mayor Damien Boley will be the highest ranked Mayor on the Mid-America Regional Council’s Board of Directors. At their last meeting the MARC Board promoted Mayor Boley to 2nd Vice Chair. MARC oversees nine counties in the Kansas City Metro on both sides of the state line. Former Gladstone Mayor Carol Suter Chaired the MARC Board from April 2017 through April 2019 and the results for Clay County are obvious. Your EDC is excited to soon see Mayor Boley carry out his vision.

Business Bootcamp: Mid-Continent Public Library and your EDC will partner for a Business Bootcamp March 7th from 8AM to noon at the Woodneath Library Center. Business basics, artificial intelligence and social media will all be discussed. Please hold the date and we’ll get the signup link as soon as possible.

The Rabbit hOle: Following years of planning and construction The Rabbit hOlewill be opening March 12th at 919 E 14th Avenue in North Kanas City. The immersive museum is dedicated to children’s literature and is expected to be a nation-wide tourist destination. There will be more than 30 exhibits, a bookstore, labs and a resource library.

Make 48: Our friend Brett Kisker invited your EDC to witness a Make 48 event at UMKC last Saturday. The idea was to give teams from various local high schools 48 hours to make a product to enhance a person’s stadium experience. The teams had students interested in engineering, architecture, marketing and other study areas. While it was disappointing to note that, while invited, no one from any of the architecture firms making up the Sports Architecture of the World” took the time to show. Area guru Madison Hummel, Marketing Content Specialist at Dimensional Innovations was there to share her expertise. The work of these young women and men was very creative. You may soon be able to see some of their work on Make 48 TV, or possibly at a ball game down the road.

Fentanyl Prevention: The Kansas City Regional Police Academy located at 6885 NE Pleasant Valley Road will host a “Fentanyl and Norcan Prevention Through Education” seminar February 22nd at 6PM. The public is encouraged to attend.

Liberty Hospital Awarded: Liberty Hospital has earned The Joint Commission’s (TJC) Gold Seal of Approval® for Primary Stroke Center Certification. The hospital underwent a rigorous, onsite review in which TJC ensured its compliance with the highest national standards for safety and quality throughout a stroke patient’s duration of care. Hospital President and CEO Raghu Adiga, MD, said, “Primary Stroke Center certification is the result of a tremendous amount of hard work, I am very proud of our team for their commitment to provide excellent care to our stroke patients. This certification demonstrates that we respond to strokes quickly and with excellence.”
